Design On Stage
Last week the Academy Center of the Arts welcomed Clinton Smith, Editor-in-Chief at Veranda Magazine, and Barbara Westbrook, of Westbrook Interiors, to Lynchburg, Virginia. The celebrated designers took part in Design On Stage. With hopes of enhancing Lynchburg's arts community, Design on Stage is a new series that will highlight different designers in an intimate setting.
Smith and Westbrook headlined a luncheon where they walked the crowd through a selection of Westbrook's interior design projects. The focus was on restoration and preservation - fitting to take place at the Academy, which recently exceeded its multi-million dollar restoration campaign goal.
Westbrook, a native of Lynchburg, Virginia, stated, "I always love coming home and when I first heard about the renovation and restoration about the Academy I really wanted to be a part of things." The Atlanta-based interior designer launched Westbrook Interiors in 1992. For twenty years, she has made her mark on interiors employing her signature style: tasteful, tactile, timeless and simply elegant. Westbrook’s inviting approach to design has yielded high-style results in traditional, transitional, and contemporary interiors.
Smith, has been with Veranda for 3 years and recently launched a new initiative dedicated to historic preservation. Smith wanted the magazine's May/June issue to "serve as a reminder that the kind of time-honored handiwork, craftsmanship, and ingenuity that have served the world for hundreds of years need to be discussed, appreciated, and looked at in order to be kept alive." The issue hit newsstands in May and you can see Moore & Giles' ad in this issue here.
