Leather is an organic material, shaped by nature. Patina, color variation, markings, and wrinkles are all characteristics that add to its beauty and depth.
Color Flow
Even within the same dye-lot you will find variation in color between hides. This short video explains how color variation is made into a harmonious design.
Color Variation
Below is an example of how color variation is expressed on our Meriwether Armchair upholstered in Ellis Cypress. Our skilled upholsterers utilize the color differences within a hide and create a unique, one-of-a-kind piece.

Pull-Up
During the finishing stages, leather is treated with a blend of transparent waxes and oils. When stretched or pulled, separation of the waxes/oils occurs and the color will contrast, becoming lighter in the pulled areas, resulting in a worn-in effect.
Natural Markings
Natural markings not only show the life of the hide but the life of the piece and the rich history it has witnessed. Over time, it becomes a testament to the experiences and memories made there that enriches the environment, adding depth and continuity to its narrative.
