Moore & Giles has a New Home on La Cienega
We are excited to announce the launch of a new Southern California showroom in the La Cienega Design District of West Hollywood.
As of last week, our leather collection is now featured in Harbinger, represented by distinguished designer, Joe Lucas. Harbinger is our newest addition to our global network of showrooms. As part of the new relationship, the entire Moore & Giles portfolio will be showcased in this stylish showroom.
We recently sat down with Joe Lucas to discuss his journey into the design world, his showroom and the new partnership with Moore & Giles:
Briefly explain the journey that led you into the design industry...
I sort of fell into it when I started working for a designer and shop owner, Claudia Benvenuto, working in her antiques shop as a side job. I fell fast and love that I've followed in her footsteps being both a designer and shop owner as well almost 18 years later.
Tell us the story of Harbinger...
Harbringer started out in a tiny, little 400sf space in Almont Yard, basically because my friend Peter Dunham opened his original Hollywood at Home above my office and said, "If I have a shop, you need a shop!". Over the next six years we grew in spurts, eventually leading me to a 5000sf building in the heart of the La Cienega Design Quarter in 2011. I recently added another 1000sf this month with the addition of Harbinger By Hand. Harbinger now represents over 40 lines and has become a design destination in Los Angeles.
How were you first introduced to Moore & Giles?
I had always known about the company and product, but I really fell in love with it when I met Brooks Morrison. She was so excited about the Harbinger brand and wanted to come up with some way of getting us working together. So, we co-hosted a party with the Hearst Design Group in 2014 for the Legends of La Cienega design event and it was a hit! We repeated the party last year and now have finally been able to add Moore & Giles to our family of lines in the showroom.
What excites you most about the partnership with Moore & Giles?
I love to be surrounded in the showroom with my favorite things, and Moore & Giles is definitely a favorite when it comes to the leather and the company as a whole. There is something very special about the people who work with the company. It's all one big family and I can't think of a better example of what I strive for at Harbinger. The product is incredible, from the leathers to the handmade furniture.
Do you have a favorite Moore & Giles leather?
It's hard to pick a favorite, but I guess I am biased with Mont Blanc in Winter Pine because I have it on my Danish sofa in my living room. It's the most beautifully perfect British Racing Green color that I am currently obsessed with!
What is it about leather that resonates most with your clients? Where do you like using leather the most?
There is something so special about leather. It adds an important layer to every project, so there is always a spot for it. I tend to use a lot on dining chairs or on an ottoman. I'm obsessed with the hand tooled leather panels that Moore & Giles is doing. They are insanely beautiful and have endless uses for walls, doors, ceilings, etc.
We are proud to be working with Joe Lucas and his wonderful team. We had a fantastic time at the #HarbingerByHand launch party last week in Los Angeles. Below are some photos from the event. For more info on Harbinger: www.harbingerla.com
