Briefly describe your work…
I work closely with customers to design and deliver an interior for their aircraft that they envision.
Why do you love your work?
I love what I do as a designer because it is ever-changing, no two customers are alike. Their style, likes and desires change with every project and that is always exciting for me. I love making customer’s dreams and ideas turn into reality. One of my favorite moments throughout the process is unveiling the finished interior to the customer.
What inspires you?
Tough question, a lot of things inspire me. I work with a bunch of very talented people who have all types of interesting ideas, which is inspiring. Customers also inspire me many times. They have a passion and an idea of what they would like their airplane to look like, how could that inspiration not rub off? Most important, I have a great family that has supported and inspired me for as long as I can remember.
Do you see an emerging aviation trend?
A trend I’ve seen recently is the use of Gray and Navy colors in the cabin. I’ve also been involved in a program where the customer wants to push the envelope in aircraft interior design. We have done ‘Art Deco’, ‘New York loft’ and ‘Malibu’ themed interiors. We’re starting to steer away from the typical beiges and find a deeper concept and display in our designs. aviation-diptych Papillon Ink // Ascot Granite
Where is your favorite place to use leather on a jet?
For decorative leather, I like using it on lower side panels. Although we have to be strategic on where to place the the seams, we can hide them in most cases. This is part of the airplane where you can get bold without going overboard. We’ve used a lot of interesting patterns and colors of leather on the lower side panels.
What is your favorite era of aviation?
Now, and what is just ahead around the bend. I am always looking to push the envelope in aviation design.
Where is your favorite place in the world to travel?
Europe, specifically England. I have family there whom I adore. I also love the art and architecture history there, which is a passion of mine and is very prominent there.
What is your travel must-have?
My phone and my iPad - for work, email, Netflix and music.
What do you pack in your carry on?
Noise canceling headphones are a life saver, iPod, magazines and snacks!
Tell us about your dream jet…
My dream jet would have a very modern interior with the latest in avionics, but, most importantly, something that is able to fly me and some of my family and friends somewhere hot, to get away from this snow.
What is one thing from the ground that you wish you had in the air?
I would definitely say reliable internet!
